Todd Chrisley Hoping To Change ‘Evil’ and ‘Inhumane’ Prison System

The work doesn’t stop for Todd Chrisley, even after being sent to prison at FPC Pensacola in Florida. Alongside teaching financial classes behind bars, Todd is speaking up about prison reform. He calls the prison system in America “cruel, broken, and inhuman.”

This comes on the heels of other allegations of negligence that Tood’s lawyer, Jay Surgent, has made against the prison. And he hasn’t been shy about it either, talking to all the media outlets who will listen.

A broken and inhuman system

The attorney shared with Radar Online that the only other thing Todd is focused on in prison aside from reuniting with his family is helping others see “the evil that is happening within these facilities.”

“Todd is doing well, and his spirits are up,” he shared. “He is focused and determined, and one of his highest priorities is to create real, lasting, and systemic change within the U.S. Justice System and particularly within the American Prison System.”

The Chrisley Knows Best star is currently serving a 10-year sentence (reduced from 12) at the Federal Prison camp in Pensacola. And according to counsel, in his time there, he has witnessed and been a victim of a very broken, cruel, and inhumane system.

I’m not quite sure what he was expecting from prison, but okay.

Issues that need fixing

Todd, through his lawyer, shared some of his important issues.

Firstly, the prison does very little rehabilitation. According to Todd, not a single person has received their GED in the last three years.

Second, the medical department is “in shambles” and has doled out the wrong medication. And third, Muslim inmates are being denied their right to practice their religion.

“There are a huge number of inmates that are Muslim that are regularly being denied access and opportunity to participate in faith-based worship services because they have to work during the scheduled worship times,” the attorney shared.

Lastly, Todd’s counsel also brought up that the prison was forcing inmates to do manual labor outside, like mowing, weeding, and landscaping, in unsafe and “dangerous conditions” of over 100 degrees in the summer.

All of the concerns are valid, and improving the prison system isn’t a new topic. But is Todd Chrisley about to become the new face of prison reform? I have to admit I didn’t see that coming.

TELL US – DO YOU THINK TODD CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE? DOES HE REALLY CARE ABOUT PRISON REFORM, OR IS IT JUST BECAUSE HE IS NOW AFFECTED TOO?
