Carl Radke’s decision to live sober was a big part of his relationship with Lindsay Hubbard from the start. Also, early in their courtship, Lindsay shunned alcohol to support her then-boyfriend.
Accordingly, the Summer House star continues to live sober. But he admitted that the stress of calling off the engagement was a major trigger for him.
One can empathize that a seismic shift in life would pose a challenge to anybody. But factor in someone who utilizes a lot of energy to maintain sobriety, and that’s a whole extra level of work.
He was tempted by a bottle of wine
“I had gotten a hotel room the night or the day after or the day of the conversation,” he exclusively told People while attending BravoCon 2023 in Las Vegas. “I talked to Lindsay’s father. He said, ‘Take some space.’ And I said, ‘I agree.’”
Carl stayed in a hotel room that night. Basically, due to his “disheveled” appearance, the former Loverboy VP was asked about his well-being by an employee there. Additionally, the staff member then brought Carl a bottle of wine to his room.
The Summer House star explained, “I said, ‘I’m dealing with something at home.’ That was the strength I had in that moment to just say, ‘No, I can’t.’ I’m proud of that. These are moments where it’s really trying on your mental health [and] sobriety. I’m just trying to move forward with respect and focus on myself and try and live a happy life.”
In January 2023, Carl celebrated two years of sobriety. At the time, Lindsay also posted in honor of the milestone. She has since deleted the post, but the triumph remains. The Summer House star hasn’t used alcohol or cocaine in two years. Those were “the things that I have a major problem with,” Carl shared.
