RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 16 Trailer Teases Huge Twist and A-List Guest Judges

Oh, ya’ll wanted a twist, eh? Well, good because RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 16 is about to be filled with them. MTV just dropped a brand-new trailer to give us a glimpse of what to expect. The trailer teased new twists and turns, as well as some A-list guest judges, and of course a bunch of seriously sickening runway looks. Friday nights are about to be fierce again.

First, let’s talk about these twists that RuPaul teased in the trailer. After 16 seasons and an uncountable number of international spinoffs, the creative minds at Drag Race had to find a way to shake things up. So for Season 16, they’re introducing a new “Rate a Queen” twist that will allow the contestants to vote on who they think did the best and worst in the first Maxi Challenge, which will be a talent show extravaganza.

In the new trailer, RuPaul mysteriously says, “I will not be judging you. Instead, you will be judging each other.”

The premiere episode will also reintroduce immunity from elimination. It’s a device we haven’t seen on the show since Season 5. Talk about a game-changer.

Michelle Visage, Ross Mathews, Carson Kressley, and TS Madison are all returning as judges this year. Season 16 will also have a gaggle of A-list celebrities joining the panel. They may not know anything about drag, but they’ll certainly be fun to look at!

Some of this year’s guest judges include Charlize Theron, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Kelsea Ballerini. The judges’ panel will also welcome celebrity stylist Law Roach, which we should all be celebrating. He brings a wealth of judging experience from his time on America’s Next Top Model and Legendary, so you know he’ll bring some solid critiques to the runway.

RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 16 will also feature the return of 90-minute episodes, immediately followed by a 30-minute episode of Untucked. MTV learned their lesson with that Real Friends of WeHo fiasco last year. We’re back to having a weekly, two-hour commitment to Drag Race in 2024.

RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 16 begins on MTV, on Friday, January 5 at 8/7c.
