Kelly Clarkson was definitely feeling a bit of turmoil on the most recent Kelly Clarkson Show as she tried to perform one of Jon Bon Jovi’s greatest hits. Luckily, as with most things, she had a pretty good attitude about it.
Kelly’s reputation precedes her. Her success and overall likability are what propelled her into place as a daytime talk show host. But she hasn’t lost sight of what made her famous. She’s happy to treat her audience to a musical number. Of course, even for a pro like her, things don’t always go as planned.
Why Kelly couldn’t sing Bon Jovi’s “Blaze of Glory”
In a recent Kellyoke, the daytime host did a rendition of Bon Jovi’s “Blaze of Glory.” After the fact, she told fans at home, “That is the song that almost killed me. Not even ‘cause I can’t sing it, I just can’t read, whatever. Here’s the thing – started off friends, we didn’t mean to do that, okay – I grew up on that song. I know that song.”
She continued, “But in rehearsal, I messed it up, like, a gazillion times. Not even ‘cause I wasn’t hitting the notes. I just couldn’t read. I just kept saying the wrong words. It got so ridiculous, I had to let it go like Elsa … And then I had someone come rescue me.”
Kelly’s slip-ups included saying “Let the boy like die a man,” and “Let me fake my final stand.” She explained her mistakes by saying that her “learning disability kicked in.” She’s so real for that. Eventually, Bon Jovi himself came out and Kelly fell to the floor in front of him. “I can’t say the words!” she said with a hug. Bon Jovi responded, “Come on, Glenda!”
Hard to believe American Idol featured Kelly Clarkson over 20 years ago. But boy if she doesn’t have the same charm and amazing voice.
