Basketball Wives Star Brittany Renner on Her Conversion to Islam

One of the most quotable moments from Basketball Wives was when the ladies were preparing for a cast trip, and Tami Roman asked, “Girl, we going to Islam?” They, in fact, were not “going to Islam.” However, they now have a Brittany Renner back as a full-time cast member, and she recently converted to the Islamic faith. In some ways, that feels full circle.

Brittany joined Basketball Wives in Season 11, but in the middle of the season, she randomly left the show. At the time, they said that she chose to move back home to North Carolina. Since then, she has undergone a “transformative spiritual journey” which fans will follow in Season 12.

Basketball Wives star Brittany Renner lauds her conversion to Islam

In Brittany’s Basketball Wives Season 12 cast photo, she was glowing in her hijab, marking a stark difference from the woman we last saw on our screens. In an interview with People, she explained why she felt compelled to return to the messy VH1 show with this new perspective.

“Allah called me back to this platform, to this show, and I feel like the first time that I was here, I didn’t put my best foot forward,” she explained.

When Brittany first opened up about converting, her followers criticized her online, accusing her of mocking the religion. According to Brittany, the Islamic faith always “intrigued” her, and she said it has changed her life for the better.

“Allah put Islam on my heart five, six years ago. But I was not ready to accept it. Right? So it took five, six years, and once I got the call to take my Shahada, I just listened,” she explained.

“I felt like if I had not taken my Shahada, I was gonna go down a really dark road,” she said, referring to the Muslim profession of faith.

Brittany reiterated to the outlet that her conversion to Islam made her life better in “every category.” But will her faith be enough to keep her out of the drama from longtime Basketball Wives stars like Evelyn Lozada and Jackie Christie? Tune in to find out.

Basketball Wives airs on Mondays at 8/7c on VH1.
