Fans have enjoyed watching Kandi Burruss on Real Housewives of Atlanta but now it’s time for another Burruss to step in the reality TV spotlight. Kandi’s daughter Riley Burruss is part of the cast for Next Gen NYC and her mom gave her some friendly advice (or a friendly warning?) about being on the show and reality TV in general.
If you’re unfamiliar with the show, Next Gen NYC is a new reality show (previously called Making it in Manhattan) and starring the kids of reality TV stars. The stellar lineup includes Riley along with Teresa Giudice’s daughter Gia Giudice and Kim Zolciak’s daughter Ariana Biermann and several others. But is the next generation ready to step into the spotlight? For her part, Kandi is trying to make sure Riley isn’t blindsided.
Kandi Burruss’ daughter Riley Burruss is “private,” but signed up for Next Gen NYC
Kandi is a household name in the Real Housewives world. She was a fixture of RHOA until she made her exit after Season 14. Since then, she’s been busy with acting, producing, and doing more of what she loves.
When asked about a potential return to RHOA for Season 16, Kandi replied, “I’m just not there at this moment in my life. I am doing what I really love.” But she was quick to add, “But I am supporting from afar.” It’s not really surprising that Kandi is no rush to head back. Plus, Phaedra Parks made her return this season and Kandi will never share the screen with her again.
For now, it’s Riley that’s stepping into the reality TV arena. And she was glad to get Kandi’s advice before filming.
When asked if Kandi tried to talk her out of doing the show or if she gave her any advice, Riley admitted that Kandi did have some advice for her going into it.
“My mom was skeptical because she knows I’m a pretty private person,” Riley revealed. “And she was like, ‘if you’re gonna do this, you have to show your life. You have to how you are.’”
Riley added that Kandi told her, “Just be true to yourself. Be honest. Don’t be fake and you’ll be fine.” It’s really good advice.
Riley, along with the other kids in the show, certainly do have a wealth of knowledge about reality TV from their parents. Let’s see if it helps them when Next Gen NYC premieres.
Next Gen NYC premieres Tuesday, June 3 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo. Episodes will also be available to stream next-day on Peacock.
