It’s a very sad day in the world of both music and reality TV, as The Osbournes‘ patriarch Ozzy Osbourne passed away. He was 76 years old. Ozzy Osbourne was an absolute legend as the frontman of Black Sabbath, and a major pioneer in heavy metal. Over the years, Ozzy became as well known for his on and off stage antics as for his music.
By the 2000s, he experienced a whole new wave of popularity thanks to MTV’s The Osbournes. Thanks to his larger than life personality, Ozzy had a host of many memorable reality TV moments in addition to his incredible songs. Here are some of the biggest moments from the hit TV series.
Ozzy Osbourne’s craziest moments on The Osbournes
Ozzy wasn’t just the Prince of Darkness with incredible vocals and inimitable on-stage charisma. He really lived the heavy metal lifestyle through and through. This is the man who famously bit a bat’s head off on stage, after all. And even in his fifties, he was still causing controversy thanks to The Osbournes. Of course, he was hilarious as well. I still remember how many people would imitate the way he cried out “Sharon!” aka his wife, Sharon Osbourne.
Speaking of Sharon, she had plenty of wild moments on the show as well. She famously threw a ham at their neighbors! In fact, the whole Osbourne family was entertaining, which is part of why the show was such a success. It was like a crazy, rock n’ roll sitcom, albeit with plenty of gross-out and OMG moments. Here are a few of the most memorable Ozzy scenes from the series, which ran for four seasons on MTV.
Ozzy Osbourne’s legendary bubbles freakout
Who thought the concept of bubbles could make a man so angry? Well, this is Ozzy Osbourne we’re talking about. But as he prepared for a performance in Season 1, Sharon thought her husband could try something very different than what he’s known for. Namely … bubbles. Let’s just say Ozzy didn’t love the idea. In one of his many famous rants from the series, Ozzy cursed the very concept as “f*cking stupid,” adding, “I just want to play rock n’ roll!” He remind Sharon, “I’m the Prince of f*cking Darkness!”
Ozzy and Sharon’s TMI on the radio
The last thing anyone wants to hear is their parents talking about their sex life. But when your parents are celebrities, let alone stars as wild as Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne? You can’t escape it. That’s what Jack Osbourne learned when he heard his mom and dad’s very TMI conversation on the radio in episode 3 of Season 1.
Jack, who was 15 years old in the first season, recently admitted he was apprehensive about doing the show in the first place. Then, he had to hear Ozzy talk about his erections. Specifically, how he took lots of Viagra. And how it lead to erections at inappropriate and inopportune times.
Let’s just say this was far from the first time, or the last, the kids would hear their parents’ uncomfortable conversations on the show. Hey, at least Jack bought a car with the money he earned!
Ozzy versus the Osbourne dogs
The Osbournes cast included the family’s many pets. Which were as wild and misbehaved as you might expect. In one Season 2 episode, Ozzy became enraged when the dogs started leaving number twos all over the house. “I’m not picking up dog sh*t,” he exclaimed, “I’m a rock star!”
Eventually, the family brought in a dog therapist, much to Ozzy’s chagrin. He insisted, “You don’t need to hire a dog therapist, you just need to wake up at 7 am and open the f*cking door!” Elsewhere in this episode, Ozzy tried to beg the dog not to poop anymore … by talking into the dog’s butt.
Ozzy and the vagina doctor
While Jack and Kelly Osbourne were featured on the show, their sister Aimee chose to stay off camera. But she still factored into one of the show’s many infamous moments. In one episode, Kelly reveals that her sister made a gynecologist appointment for her, and she doesn’t want to go. It lead to one of Ozzy’s many, many iconic quotes from the show – “All you have to do is say ‘f*ck off’ when the vagina doctor calls.”
Ozzy gets drunk at his and Sharon’s wedding … again
As you might expect considering his rock star past, lots of moments on The Osbournes revolved around Ozzy’s use of drugs and alcohol. Such as when he insisted there must be a beer thief who drank all his booze. Or when he mixed painkillers with alcohol after injuring his foot, and passed out during Thanksgiving. While talking the dog for a walk. And singing.
In the Season 1 episode My Big Fat Jewish Wedding, Ozzy and Sharon chose to renew their vows. Ozzy initially promised Sharon he wouldn’t get blacked out like he did the first time. Alas, history ended up repeating itself. While she didn’t get the wedding night of her dreams, twice, Sharon and Ozzy were married for 43 years until his passing.
