Season 34 of Dancing with the Stars is special for several reasons. The cast for the upcoming season is diverse and competitive. And DWTS pro Mark Ballas unretired for this season. Plus, judge Derek Hough and his wife, Hayley Erbert, are expecting their first child.
The couple said ‘I do’ in August 2023 in a redwood forest in Monterey County, California. The wedding reception for the 106 guests was held in a barn. Plenty of the duo’s DWTS family was in attendance. And Mark served as Derek’s best man. I bet that the dance floor at the reception was on fire!
Derek Hough and Hayley Erbert won’t reveal their baby’s sex
Derek and Hayley announced that they were expecting via an emotional joint Instagram post in July. “We can’t believe the biggest thing to happen to us could be so small,” the duo’s caption read. This news is all the more sweet because of the life-threatening medical emergency that Hayley suffered in December 2023. Derek revealed at the time that his wife’s diagnosis was a “cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel and required an emergency craniectomy.” Thankfully, Hayley went on to make a complete recovery.
PEOPLE reported that Derek was a guest on Live with Kelly and Mark, and co-host Mark Consuelos asked about the couple’s sex reveal. Since it was in black-and-white, it wasn’t all that revealing. “Yeah. You know, there’s not a lot of surprises in life, right?” Derek stated. “We’re going to keep that one to ourselves. So yeah, it’s going to be exciting. Can’t wait.”
Then, Kelly Ripa asked Derek about why the couple decided to find out the sex of their baby. Derek responded that his wife is “Type A.” He added, “She’s like, ‘That closet is ready to go, the clothes are ready.’ She wants to know what’s going on.”
Dancing with the Stars Season 34 will premiere on Tuesday, September 16, at 8 p.m. on ABC and Disney+. It will stream on Hulu the next day.
