Dancing With the Stars judge Derek Hough finally proposed to Hayley Erbert in 2022. They had been dating a mere seven years. The couple tied the knot in August 2023 in a redwood forest.
But marriage vows usually include a section about loving your partner “in sickness and in health.” And unfortunately, Derek and Hayley are living through that scary scenario.
It was recently revealed that Hayley had to undergo emergency surgery. Thankfully, she’s now stable. Here’s what went down.
Hayley required emergency surgery
Derek shared the news about Hayley’s health scare on Instagram. The incident happened the night after the Season 32 finale of DWTS. “At the end of last night’s tour performance in Washington, D.C., my wife Hayley became disoriented and was taken to the hospital. She was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel and required an emergency craniectomy,” Derek wrote. “She is in stable condition.”
He continued, “I want to thank the first responders and medical personnel who have cared for and continue to care for her. I ask for your prayers and positivity during this time,” Derek added.
The comments were flooded with well wishes for Hayley. Vanderpump Rules star Ariana Madix, who just competed on DWTS, wrote “omg sending all my love to you and hayley and hoping for the speediest of recoveries.” Dance pro Witney Carson posted, “Sending so much love and praying like crazy for her.”
Derek’s fellow judge on the show, Carrie Ann Inaba said, “Sending you and Hayley all my prayers and love.” Host Alfonso Ribeiro wrote, “Sending you all the love I have in my soul. Prayers for a speedy recovery.” And Jenna Johnson posted, “Praying and sending all our love your way. We love you, Hayley.”
Emma Slater added, “Omg derek, thinking of you guys right now. Sending Hayley so much love and healing light.”
