Real Housewives of Orange County star Gina Kirschenheiter has been with boyfriend Travis Mullen for over six years. But in the midst of his marathon divorce battle, Travis and his estranged wife Meghan Mullen are facing a new hurdle. As part of their custody battle, the former couple are both being ordered to participate in a psychological evaluation.
The evaluations are intended to “assist the court in making a determination regarding the custody and visitation arrangement that is in the best interest of the minor children.” Travis and Meghan share three young children: Presley, Bennett and Joseph.
Married in July 2010, the pair separated in September 2016, and Travis filed for divorce in March 2017. Though they initially agreed to joint custody, Meghan has behaved so erratically that now Travis is asking for sole custody.
Travis Mullen is facing off against his ex Meghan Mullen in a custody battle
In court documents obtained by Us Weekly, Travis and Meghan agreed to allow a Newport Beach doctor to conduct a “full child custody evaluation regarding” their children. In addition, they agreed to work with the evaluator and “promptly complete all necessary paperwork, interviews, psychological testing and home visits as reasonably requested by the evaluator.”
The doctor will also speak to any relevant teachers, counselors, family members and therapists. When the doctor’s work is complete, he’ll submit his report to the court.
Per the documents, Travis was granted a restraining order against his ex when he accused her of assaulting him, which she denied. When the pair reached a deal to drop the TRO, the agreement required Meghan to submit to drug testing.
But in March, after Meghan skipped a couple of drug tests and interfered with his custody time, Travis returned to court, requesting sole custody. “Her refusal to take a court-ordered drug test further supports my suspicions that [Meghan] is consuming illegal substances, which could drastically impair her ability to care for our children,” he reported.
For her part, Gina wishes they were all able to co-parent, but she doesn’t hold out much hope. “I obviously am a very big proponent of co-parenting and being everything good for the kids,” she said. “But you can’t … can’t control everything … I am always going to do what is in the best interest of the children … So, I will never be the problem.”
“I used to try to understand it and try to think about … the motivations behind it,” Gina continued. “I’m honestly not willing to give any more energy into trying to figure that out. That is not my burden; that is not my cross to bear.”
The Real Housewives of Orange County airs Thursdays at 8/7c on Bravo. It streams on Hayu in the UK and Ireland.
