Season 34 of Dancing with the Stars premiered with some fantastic dancing, a missing judge, and some judging missteps. Sadly, Carrie Ann Inaba missed the premiere due to illness. Meanwhile, the contestants danced to their personal theme songs, showing off their best moves. Dylan Efron, who won The Traitors, may not have received the highest scores, but he gave it his all.
Of course, Dylan has no performance or dance experience. While he won a reality competition series, DWTS doesn’t feature lying, treachery, and alliances like The Traitors. Still, Dylan is locked, loaded, and ready to learn how to dance.

Dylan, who is partnered with seasoned pro dancer Daniella Karagach, performed a cha-cha to the hit song Milkshake by Kelis. And Dylan’s booty did plenty of shaking and shimmying during the routine. The couple scored a total of 10 out of 20 points. “I mean, listen, 5s are not great, but it gives you room for improvement,” Daniella told US Weekly. And Dylan is ready for the challenge. The newbie dancer said that he “understood” the judges’ critiques.
“I think it was Derek [Hough] who was saying he wants to see me turn into that lead character type vibe, and that wasn’t what we were going for week one,” Dylan stated. “We wanted to go out there and have fun. So I hope our arc does look like that,” he added.
Meanwhile, Daniella and Dylan are dreading the next episode’s double elimination. “I don’t want to see anyone going home,” Daniella said. “Everyone is working their butts off.” And Dylan is loving his time in the ballroom. “I’m having fun out there. This is what I love most in life is learning new things,” Dylan stated. “It’s such a rare opportunity to get to do that.”
Dancing with the Stars airs on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on ABC and Disney+. It streams on Hulu the next day.
