Dancing with the Stars presents its celebrities with many challenges. There is the pressure of learning the choreography, dancing in front of a live audience, and dealing with injuries. And according to Robert Irwin, there is … the confetti. Dangerous, threatening confetti…
During Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Night on Season 34 of DWTS, Robert was part of a team dance. Team Kool danced to a live performance of Kool and the Gang’s hit, Celebration. The premise was a wild graduation ceremony, and the group earned 38 out of 40 points. At the end of the routine, Robert suffered a health scare.
Robert Irwin choked on a piece of confetti during Dancing with the Stars
“Do you want an exclusive?” Robert asked Entertainment Tonight after the show. “I almost died tonight.” He explained, “I choked on a piece of confetti after the team dance.” As his partner, Witney Carson, covered her face with her hands, he continued his frightening story. “Legit, I went over to Witney, and I think they cut away, and I inhaled a piece of confetti. No, I was, I couldn’t breathe,” Robert said. After gesturing at his throat, Robert thankfully coughed up the confetti. “I’m not even kidding,” he added.
“I didn’t even know that was happening. I would have been a shield, like this, with the confetti,” Witney said as she held her arms up. “You would’ve!” Robert agreed.
Of course, Witney feels like Robert’s big sister, especially after his DMs blew up following a shirtless dance in the ballroom. “I feel very protective over him, especially when the DMs get a little crazy, I get a little protective,” Witney previously explained.
During Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Night, the charming fan favorite tied for fourth place. Some fans have called out the judges for underscoring Robert, especially on Wicked Night.
Dancing with the Stars airs on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on ABC and Disney+. It will stream on Hulu the next day.
