According to Sister Wives star Christine Brown, she might have divorced her spiritual husband, Kody Brown. Yet, she cannot escape this man entirely. Yes, they share children, but in a shocking turn of events, Christine is now alerting us that Kody has yet another connection to her life, aside from their six shared children. Instead, Kody is also a distant blood relative of Christine’s.
Christine and Kody Brown are distant cousins

Thanks to the relatively tiny dating pool offered in their former church, Christine often worried about finding her future mate. Back then, as she recently explained on Sister Wives, “I knew growing up that I would have to marry a convert because I was literally related to everybody in the church.” Christine was talking to her new spiritual and legal husband, David Woolley, on a recent episode. And as she further detailed, “I did marry a convert, but I was still related to him too.”
Wait. What? But before anyone could ask her any questions, Christine herself reiterated, “Yeah, I’m related to Kody.” As she described, her spiritual marriage to Kody, which was honored in their church from 1994 to 2021, came with a newly confessed plot twist, as Kody is technically Christine’s distant cousin.
“Third cousins once removed [makes for a] fully legal [marriage]. Fully,” Christine shared. She then clarified that “Polygamy is not legal.” Nonetheless, she remains “third cousins once removed from Kody.”
In response, all that her new man, David, could say was, “Wow.” However, chiming in like a proper Sister Wives partner-turned-friend, Janelle Brown had a lot more to say. “It wasn’t the kind of relationship where, like, you saw each other at the family reunion — like, it was a very distant relationship. But they would always joke about being cousins, [because we exist in such] a small community.”
Sister Wives airs Sundays at 10/9c on TLC.
