Everyone who joins a game show is hoping for that life-changing winning moment. For Steven Hardman and his son Seth Hardman, that moment came when they joined The Wall, NBC’s hit game show. The father and son duo from Triangle, VA, hit the jackpot and walked away with an incredible $1.6 million prize.
The Wall is a game show hosted by Chris Hardwick. It is like a giant game of Plinko with a hint of the mystery of Battleship. Contestants stand on opposite sides of a giant pegboard called The Wall and try to correctly answer trivia questions.
The 9/11 first responder and his son won big on the NBC game show
The show has given away over $35 million in the last five seasons. Steven and Seth are the latest big winners during the exciting Season 6 premiere.
Steven is an off-duty police officer who once raced into the Pentagon during 9/11 to help evacuate victims. He was honored with the Declaration of Valor in 2002 for his heroic efforts. Vision loss ended his career in law enforcement, but Steve still serves the community as an elementary school security officer at Triangle Elementary.
Seth, his son, was 18 years old when they taped the show. He is studying at George Mason University and works as a substitute teacher three days a week at Triangle Elementary alongside his father.
In the emotional episode, Steven and Seth played alongside each other in the nail-biting game. The culminating moment was Seth choosing to tear up the guaranteed contract for $170,000 and risking it all, knowing what the win could mean for his family. And it turned out his gamble was worth it.
Chris didn’t even need to pretend to be emotionally invested, as he was on tenterhooks just like the audience and Steven’s wife and other son as they watched the father and son duo secure their life-changing win. It’s wonderful seeing good things happen.
Since the win, Steven told InsideNova that he is “savoring the moment and the chance for financial freedom.” As for Seth, he is relishing the “security it offers” and remains humbled by everyone cheering for the duo from their hometown.
The Wall airs Mondays at 9/8c on NBC. You can stream it on Peacock the next day.
