Mary Cosby shared her vulnerability in revealing her son’s story has endeared her to fans on Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.
Mary has discussed Robert Cosby Jr.’s journey with addiction since Season 5. Her husband, Robert Cosby Sr., is also a tremendous support for the family. Now, the parents have to deal with their son being incarcerated.
Robert Cosby Jr. remains in jail, confirms mom Mary at the RHOSLC reunion
Robert was arrested on September 5 2025 for allegedly violating a restraining order. He has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from that incident.
Mary spoke about the situation while filming the RHOSLC Season 6 reunion. Bravo shared a preview for Part 2 includes the original star reflecting on Robert Jr.’s situation.
“[Her family] filed a restraining order against him, and he went back anyway, thinking that she wants him to come back and save her. I don’t know where he’s getting that from … delusional,” Mary explained.
Robert Jr. is awaiting a sentencing hearing in February 2026. Mary is “not worried about him” being in jail. Given the alternative, there must be some comfort in knowing her son is at least safe.
“I know he’s somewhere where he’s not using. At some point, I have to step back so that he can learn and he can make his own decisions, and unfortunately, he’s learning the hard way. But I’m OK with it,” she shared.
Mary continued, “It’s just, you don’t want to see your kid suffer, but I know it’s good. And I’d rather him be there than dead, you know?”
Neither she nor her husband have visited their son in jail. It’s a decision they made based on what was best for their family. Instead, Robert Sr. sends “a lot of books” while Mary calls daily.
“I can’t go to the jail, Andy,” Mary admitted. “That’s a little weird. I don’t want to look at my child behind a glass. He calls me every day. I’m basically preaching to him. I’m like, ‘You’re going through this, but you have to realize that God is allowing it, and if God allowed it, then it’s for your good. This will help you to change, and you gotta change.’”
