Spencer Pratt was one of reality TV’s first villains. He signed on to The Hills along with his friend, Brody Jenner. Spencer went on to woo Heidi Montag and feud with her bestie, Lauren Conrad. Eventually, Heidi and Spencer became known as “Speidi.” His antics were reality TV gold.
Unfortunately, Heidi and Spencer, who are married and share two children, lost their home in the Los Angeles wildfires. Since that time, the couple has been struggling to rebuild. And now, Spencer has released his memoir, The Guy You Loved to Hate: Confessions from a Reality TV Villain.
How much was Spencer Pratt paid per episode on The Hills?

PEOPLE reported that in an excerpt from his new memoir, Spencer spilled the tea about his time on The Hills. While Brody and Spencer were in talks with MTV for their own reality show, they decided to join The Hills. The duo decided to sign on to create some buzz for their upcoming show, which never came to fruition. “We’ll deliver the conflict The Hills desperately needs. The villain every story requires. We’ll be the reason people actually tune in,” Spencer said he told an executive at MTV.
As for his paycheck for The Hills? “They were offering me $15K-$20K an episode, depending on screen time,” Spencer said in his book, adding that there were “renegotiation clauses” in his contract. “Back then, reality stars got paid. Today? Not so much,” Spencer wrote. “People do reality shows for free these days, just for social media followers.”
In addition, Spencer made a wild claim in his book. “The president of MTV, Tony DiSanto, personally told me that if the Speidi drama hadn’t happened, The Hills would have been canceled after Season 2,” Spencer wrote.
Meanwhile, Spencer is open to more reality shows and would love to co-host a dating show with Heidi. Or, have a show about their family life. The Guy You Loved to Hate: Confessions from a Reality TV Villain was released on January 27th.
