Dorinda Medley will be joining the cast of The Golden Life as a full-time cast member following Jill Zarin’s controversial departure from the series. The decision felt like a natural transition for the series, considering Dorinda’s close relationships with the women on the cast. In fact, many fans wondered why Dorinda wasn’t slotted for the docuseries in the beginning. The Real Housewives of New York alum gave the behind-the-scenes scoop on her radio show, telling fans she was in talks with producers long before Jill’s firing. Here’s what you need to know.
Dorinda Medley was originally only going to make a cameo on The Golden Life
Dorinda spoke candidly about Jill’s firing on the Wednesday, February 18 episode of her radio show Reality Checked. She revealed that before Jill’s dismissal, she had been in talks with producers about making a cameo appearance on the series.
“I had been in talks with them going back and forth, back and forth, back and forth,” she shared. “I actually was thinking, you know, really seriously coming to terms of if I would do it or not, or just be a friend a pop in.”
Dorinda said that Jill’s exit from the series offered her a new opportunity, and she decided to embrace the change.
“After everything happened with Jill and the debacle, I thought, let me just hang my hat here,” she said. “Let me just go for it. The fire horse is coming in. Change is good.”
The producers let Jill go from the series after she shared a video criticizing Bad Bunny’s performance at the Super Bowl. In the video, she claimed that the lack of white people on stage felt like a “political statement.” Dorinda responded to the video on Reality Checked, telling listeners she was “horrified” by Jill’s comments.
“I don’t know how you can walk away from what we had the luxury and the honor of witnessing yesterday at the Super Bowl and the effect that it probably had on so many people, especially people that are frightened right now, that are faltered right now. He created hope, and I felt it,” she said.
Real Housewives of New York is available to stream on Peacock.
