Former Taylor Swift Collaborator Gets Candid About Her Songs

Todrick Hall has worked closely with Taylor Swift on “Reputation” and “Lover,” but when it comes to his playlist, he says one of his favorite songs comes from a different era. In a new interview, the performer and longtime Swift collaborator opened up about the song that still stands out to him. In that, his answer points back to “1989,” not “Reputation” or “Lover.”

Todrick Hall gets candid about his favorite Taylor Swift songs

Todrick Hall exclusively spoke with PEOPLE at the opening night of “Cats: The Jellicle Ball” on Broadway in New York City on April 7. During the conversation, the outlet asked the “Attention” singer if he had a favorite Taylor Swift era — and he revealed, “One of my favorite songs is ‘Style.’”

Moreover, Hall explained why the track is still a hit for him. “Something about that guitar lick at the beginning of ‘Style’ just immediately transports me back to that place. I just love that song.” He added, “I think it’s so well written, and I think it’s so imaginative. And I love the way that Taylor tells stories with her music and her lyrics.”

The pick may come as a surprise, because Hall’s most visible work with Swift happened later. He appeared as a backup dancer in the “Look What You Made Me Do” music video from 2017’s “Reputation,” and then also served as co-executive producer on the “You Need to Calm Down” music video from 2019’s “Lover.”

Swift publicly praised Hall’s work in behind-the-scenes footage from the “You Need to Calm Down” shoot. She said, “My friend Todrick is one of those people who is very generous with his effort and time; he would never ask for credit when he deserves it.”

The pop singer added, “He has put so much into this video, whether it was casting or ideas or fashion, and you know, just logistics. He’s basically booked half of this video.” She explained, “So I’m going to ask him to be co-executive producer of the video in this card,” while holding a handwritten note. Hall accepted the offer and said, “I am team Taylor for life.”
