The Housemaid Author Freida McFadden Goes Wig-Free in First Photo Since Revealing Real Identity

The author of The Housemaid, who recently shared her real identity for the first time, has taken another major step in ending her anonymity. Freida McFadden – real name: Sara Cohen – has shared the first image of herself without her signature wig.

Sara Cohen is the author and brain doctor’s real name

To recap, last week, Freida (AKA Sara) – whose popular novels include Never Lie and Want to Know a Secret? – unveiled her true identity after more than a decade in the publishing industry. She explained she’d originally written under a pen name to protect her career as a brain doctor. But Freida has since stepped back from doing that full-time.

“I’m at a point in my career when I’m tired of this being a secret,” she told USA Today. “I’m tired of people debating if I’m a real person.”

Elsewhere in her USA Today interview, Freida commented on her signature wig. However, she admitted that it has nothing to do with her anonymity, but rather having “no idea” how to style her hair.

So, what does Freida’s hair look like under the wig? Well, fans need wonder no more. In a new interview with TODAY, Freida gave fans a look at her real hair … and shared more insight into the decision to unmask herself.

“It became clear to me that the mystery around my real name was taking on a lore of its own,” she said. “Given that so many authors publish under pen names, I’m astonished by the response to my real name.”

Nonetheless, the writer – who described herself as a “very private person” – said she is “honored” by the “love and support” of her fans.

“Being a doctor and a writer?!! That’s amazing!! Keep up the great work!! This is the most perfect plot twist yet!” one fan said in response. “What an inspiration that we can do so many different things in life,” said someone else on Instagram.
