Taking to social media, Freida (real name: Sara Cohen) explained she’d recently read an article about herself. But the article wasn’t the issue. Rather, in the comment section, people were accusing her of using AI to write her novels.

“This is blatantly untrue,” the author said in a Facebook post on April 19. “I have said multiple times that I do NOT use AI both here and in official interviews. But maybe I’ve been too subtle?”

“I’m just going to be clear once and for all,” she went on. “I DO NOT USE AI TO WRITE MY BOOKS. I WILL NEVER USE AI TO WRITE MY BOOKS.”

Next, Freida offered some evidence that she does not use AI in her work. “I started writing when I was 9 years old (WAY before AI, before even laptops),” she said. “All I wanted was to someday have something I wrote published.”

Elsewhere in the post, Freida – who recently revealed her identity after years of anonymity – commented on how frequently authors are accused of using AI. “I find this state of things really sad,” she said. “Being an author is hard in so many ways.”

“You have to put yourself out there and leave yourself vulnerable to criticism about your deepest thoughts,” she explained of the profession’s difficulties. “And now, on top of that, people claim that the work isn’t really yours.”
