Another Bravolebrity is stepping into the political arena. Luke Gulbranson from Summer House has announced his plans to run for Congress to represent his home state of Minnesota.
The news comes as his former castmates navigate a messy hook-up scandal that continues to dominate headlines. Meanwhile, Luke just made it clear that his focus is on more important things—like unseating a three-term Republican representative.
The reality TV star will challenge Republican Pete Stauber
Luke announced his campaign on Instagram, and the Minnesota Star Tribune sat down with Luke to discuss. He is running as a Democrat and joins several other candidates who hope to unseat Republican Representative Pete Stauber.
Although reality TV fans know Luke for being a Summer House hottie, briefly dating Ashley Darby, and his recent cameo on Selling the OC, he has remained connected to his home state of Minnesota and splits his time there between Los Angeles and New York. He felt inspired to run for office after seeing his representative repeatedly side with Donald Trump on policies that he believes are harmful for Minnesotans.
Specifically, he called out Trump’s immigration crackdown and tax cuts that have harmed Minnesotans. He also said that the Republican representative opposed President Joe Biden’s infrastructure bill that would have helped stimulate the region.
“We’re in rural Minnesota, we have limited facilities as it is. And if you’re going to cut funding for these facilities that need to keep their doors open, and they need to keep their doors open with that funding, that becomes a problem,” Luke said.
According to the Summer House alum, he’s been tossing around the idea of shifting into politics for quite some time. With the recent encouragement of several high-profile Democrats, he decided to jump into the race. He’s hopeful that having such a large platform from his TV career can help him pull in endorsements and donations.
“We’re going to put our best foot forward, and we will work our tails off to win the primary, go into the general against Pete Stauber, and beat him as well.”
Summer House airs on Tuesdays at 8/7c on Bravo. You can stream it the following day on Peacock.
