Meghan Markle & Husband File to Trademark Kids’ Names — Report

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are once again under scrutiny after reports revealed they have trademarked the names of their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The development comes as Markle’s lifestyle brand, As Ever, rolls out a new product line tied closely to motherhood, and, notably, inspired by her children.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have reportedly trademarked kids Archie and Lilibet’s names

Meghan Markle’s As Ever line continues to feature subtle glimpses of her children in its advertising. According to promotional materials, the brand will release two $64 candles, No. 506, tied to Prince Archie of Sussex’s birthdate, and No. 604, linked to Princess Lilibet of Sussex’s birthdate, as part of its Mother’s Day collection launching on Wednesday.

Reports indicate the Sussexes have taken steps to secure their children’s names across trademarks, as well as associated email addresses, social media handles and domain names. A palace source described the sales pitch as “an outrageous use of their titles,” adding that Queen Elizabeth II never intended for the Sussex family to profit from HRH (His/Her Royal Highness) designations. The source noted that the duke and duchess agreed in 2020 to stop using those titles publicly after stepping down as working royals.

While celebrities often shield their children from public exposure, an industry insider said trademarking their names for future commercial use during their minority raises separate concerns. “It’s not about safeguarding the children—that’s understandable. It’s what you plan to do with (the trademarks) that is the key,” the source added.

Markle has also featured Prince Archie of Sussex and Princess Lilibet of Sussex, nicknamed Lili, in Instagram photos and videos promoting her lifestyle brand, often presenting them as “mama’s little helpers” in gardening and cooking scenes while keeping their faces partially obscured. Ahead of the As Ever launch, a February 2025 teaser video showed Markle with her children in their garden and kitchen.
