It’s an evening Colman Domingo won’t soon forget. The Academy Award nominee is out promoting the new Michael Jackson biopic, simply titled Michael. In the film, he plays the King of Pop’s father, Joseph.
At a recent screening of that film, the actor and audiences were happy to see Michael’s mother, Katherine. At 95, she is rarely seen in public nowadays. That said, she took the time to meet the Rustin star and share her appreciation for this movie about her late son.
Katherine Jackson gave the actor “love and support”

The new Michael Jackson movie appears to have Katherine’s seal of approval. On his Instagram story, Tuesday Colman posted a photo of himself with the 95-year-old saying, “to receive her love and support is all I needed.” The since-deleted picture was captured by E! News. Colman says the two shared some laughs and lovely moments throughout the evening.
Katherine were more than a few of Michael’s famous family members at the Dolby Theatre on Monday. The late singer’s siblings LaToya, Jermaine, Marlon and Jackie were all on hand, as was the Beat It singer’s son Prince. The movie’s trailer made a huge impression on fans last year, many of whom believed it alone deserved an Oscar. Michael’s real-life nephew Jaafar portrays him in the film.
While many of Michael’s loved ones attended Monday’s screening, there was one notable absence. His daughter Paris did not go to the theatre. She has publicly expressed her disdain for the biopic. Paris previously accused the film of “pandering” and of being “dishonest.”
Colman expressed tremendous gratitude to the Jackson family for attending the festivities. He publicly thanked them for being on hand. Michael comes out in theatres across the US beginning on Friday.
