The late Hulk Hogan opened up about his fentanyl obsession in the new Netflix docuseries Hulk Hogan: Real American. Bollea (real name) admitted he was taking fentanyl towards the end of his wrestling career to deal with excruciating pain (via PEOPLE).

He revealed the doctor had remarked that the former wrestler was taking more fentanyl than they had seen a human consume. Such was his obsession with fentanyl that his pharmacy confessed that this habit should have left him dead.

At the time, it was 2009, and Hogan was newly single after divorcing his ex-wife, Linda Hogan. He claimed, “he gave her everything to get rid of her,” which left him “broke”. This forced him to return to wrestling. The divorce took a toll on him, and he joined TNA to continue paying his bills. As per the docuseries, Hogan turned to consuming fentanyl to cope with his condition.

The wrestler admitted his body “had had enough.” Moreover, he shared the shocking amount of fentanyl he was consuming at the time. “I was taking 80-milligram fentanyl, two in the morning, stuffing them under my gums here,” demonstrating how he placed the substance in his mouth.

Continuing further, Hogan dished, “I had two 300mg patches of fentanyl on my legs, and they gave me six 1500mg fentanyl lollipops to eat. I went to the pharmacy, he goes, ‘You should be dead. We have never seen a human being take this much fentanyl.’”

The former wrestling legend detailed that his pain was so bad that he “couldn’t sleep in my bed” anymore. “I had to sleep in a chair, and if I just twitched my finger like that, my whole back would spasm and torque,” Hogan explained.
