Russell Brand is revisiting his past with ex Katy Perry, offering a mix of humor and self-reflection in the process. During a recent appearance on The Megyn Kelly Show, Brand spoke about his former marriage and admitted his own shortcomings. He also didn’t shy away from commenting on Perry’s relationship with Justin Trudeau.

Russell Brand kept parts of the conversation light, but his remarks about Katy Perry’s current romance stood out. While he said he had no issue with her past relationship with Orlando Bloom, he joked that this time, things felt different. “I put up with a lot with that ex-wife of mine, but you took it too far,” he said. He also added a tongue-in-cheek line about drawing the line at Justin Trudeau.
He continued the bit by making exaggerated remarks about the Canadian leader. Brand questioned the appeal of what he described as “good-looking politicians,” also referencing figures like Barack Obama, Emmanuel Macron, and Tony Blair. He added, in a joking way, that he still hopes Perry might “come to her senses” anytime and move on from Trudeau.
Brand said he thought about the mistakes he made during his marriage to Perry. The two were married from 2010 to 2012, and he now says he didn’t handle that chapter of his life particularly well.
“Here’s me taking total responsibility for all the mistakes I made in that marriage. I wanted to grab her like, ‘There, got it’ I felt like I was inadequate and not enough on my own, so I saw this big, glorious thing, even though I knew her as a person as well. Everyone is a normal person,” he added.
Brand revealed that he hasn’t spoken to Perry since informing her of his decision to divorce. However, he maintains contact with her parents, Keith Hudson and Mary Hudson, whom he described warmly. Despite the distance, he spoke positively about Perry herself, calling her “a very beautiful person” and acknowledging her work ethic and success.
