Floyd Mayweather’s Legal Drama Dims Hopes for Mike Tyson Fight

Floyd Mayweather was expected to step back into the spotlight for a high-profile exhibition with Mike Tyson, but growing off-ring issues are now casting serious doubt over those plans. With little clarity in the final days, the situation has quickly shifted from hype to uncertainty.

The proposed exhibition, once slated for April 25 in the Democratic Republic of Congo, has gone unusually quiet. Neither Mayweather nor Tyson has offered clear updates, leaving fans unsure if the bout will happen.

Still, Tyson’s advisor, Amer Abdallah, has insisted the agreement remains active, saying a contract is in place and more details should follow soon. “There is a contract in place. Details will come out soon. But I believe the fight will happen,” Abdallah told Boxing News.

At the same time, Mayweather’s schedule appears crowded. Alongside the Tyson bout, he has been linked to another exhibition in Greece against kickboxer Mike Zambidis and a potential September rematch with Manny Pacquiao.

The Pacquiao fight has already stirred controversy, with Pacquiao claiming Mayweather accepted advance payments before trying to shift it into a different format. “He knows what he signed,” Pacquiao said, stressing the importance of “dignity” and “integrity (via Complex).”

Off the ring, the situation becomes even more complicated. Mayweather is currently dealing with multiple financial and legal disputes. Reports say the IRS has filed a lien against him for more than $7 million in unpaid taxes. On top of that, he faces lawsuits tied to unpaid jet charters, a loan default nearing $900,000, and outstanding rent for a luxury apartment in Manhattan.

There have also been claims from jewelers accusing Floyd Mayweather Jr. of unpaid dues for high-end watches and chains. At the same time, Mayweather has fired back with legal action of his own, including a massive lawsuit against Showtime Networks over alleged unpaid earnings, along with another complaint tied to a luxury car deal.
