Nancy Guthrie Kidnappers Could Be Two Friends, Former FBI Agent Claims

Nancy Guthrie’s kidnapping case has entered a tense stage as investigators continue to piece together what may have happened. The 84-year-old, who is the mother of Savannah Guthrie, disappeared after a family dinner in Tucson on January 31.

Despite a wide-ranging investigation involving multiple agencies, the case remains unsolved. Now, new claims from a former FBI agent are shaping how some observers are interpreting the case.

Nancy Guthrie kidnappers could be ‘two like-minded individuals,’ former FBI agent claims

Retired FBI agent Steve Moore has suggested that the circumstances surrounding Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance may point to more than one person being involved. Speaking with NewsNation’s Brian Entin, Moore emphasized that controlling an adult against their will can be challenging for a single individual. He cautioned that while a lone suspect cannot be ruled out, multiple suspects are more likely.

“Some people very, very rightly say that it’s hard to imagine a single person doing this,” Moore reportedly said. He further stated that, statistically, “it’s more likely” that two individuals could be involved, though he stopped short of making any definitive claims.

Expanding on his perspective, Moore explained that when multiple suspects are involved, they are often connected in some way. “It would have to be two like-minded individuals,” he said, suggesting they could be friends, acquaintances, or even relatives. He added that, based on past cases, such individuals often work together with a shared goal, sometimes motivated by the promise of a reward.

The theory has drawn attention partly because of the victim’s age. At 84, Guthrie’s case presents unique logistical questions, and some have argued that a single perpetrator would face significant challenges. Still, Moore reiterated that both possibilities remain open, and he avoided speculating beyond what current information supports.

Investigators have also been examining surveillance footage that reportedly shows a masked individual tampering with a camera outside Guthrie’s home shortly after her disappearance. While the image appears significant, it has not yet led to a breakthrough publicly. Moore noted that cases like this can generate many promising leads that ultimately do not resolve the mystery.
