Donald Trump Makes ‘Violent’ Threats to Iran After Attacks on US Ships

Donald Trump fired off a fresh round of threats against Iran after a dramatic confrontation in one of the world’s most vital shipping lanes tested the limits of an already fragile ceasefire.

The fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran teeters on the edge after a fiery exchange in one of the world’s most critical waterways, The Independent reports.

Donald Trump insisted the ceasefire with Iran still holds despite three US destroyers coming under attack in the Strait of Hormuz. Missiles, drones, and small boats targeted the warships during their transit through the strait. The US military confirmed it intercepted all attacks and none of the destroyers sustained damage. Washington then launched retaliatory strikes on Iranian military facilities, including launch sites and command centres.

Trump branded Iran’s leadership “lunatics” and warned of an escalated response without a peace deal. “Just like we knocked them out again today, we’ll knock them out a lot harder, and a lot more violently, in the future, if they don’t get their Deal signed, FAST!” he wrote on Truth Social.

Iran described the incident as an “exchange of fire” and claimed its forces inflicted “significant damage” on American ships. Iran’s top military command alleged the US had targeted an Iranian oil tanker heading toward the Strait. Iranian state broadcaster Press TV reported the situation near the Strait of Hormuz has “returned to normal.”

The United Arab Emirates said its air defenses are “actively engaging” with a separate missile and drone attack early Friday. The UAE defense ministry urged residents to remain calm and follow safety instructions from relevant authorities.

Trump paused Project Freedom after Saudi Arabia blocked access to its military bases and airspace, according to NBC News. The operation aimed to escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz. Trump described the Iranian assault as a “love tap” and said a deal “could happen any day.” The confrontation marks one of the most serious incidents since the ceasefire began on the 70th day of the war.
