Explanation for Savannah Guthrie’s Abrupt Exit From Today ‘Doesn’t Add Up’ — Insiders

Savannah Guthrie’s abrupt exit from “Today” on Wednesday raised questions. Netizens and viewers wondered whether she left mid-broadcast due to an emergency related to her mother Nancy Guthrie’s case. However, the reason was reportedly not major, which raised more questions. Reportedly, insiders claimed that the explanation didn’t “add up.”

Insiders are baffled by Savannah Guthrie’s mid-show departure from ‘Today,’ report claims

Savannah Guthrie’s sudden exit from the “Today” episode on May 6 has left an NBC insider baffled. Sources told Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice that the reason behind the mid-show departure was vague.

On Wednesday, Guthrie and Craig Melvin co-anchored the morning show. After a while, the 54-year-old abruptly left the panel. Without giving a proper explanation, the co-host only said, “Savannah had to leave a little early. She’ll be right back tomorrow, though.” While she returned in Thursday’s episode, insiders were not satisfied with the explanation.

“Doctor appointments, meetings, interviews, family obligations — everything gets scheduled around Today. You do not suddenly walk off set unless something unusual is happening,” one longtime TV person said.

Furthermore, several sources told the outlet that disappearing mid-broadcast “almost never happens.” Her sudden exit also sparked speculation about any updates on her mother, Nancy Guthrie’s case. For those unversed, the 84-year-old went missing from her Arizona home at the beginning of February this year. Reportedly, authorities suspected it to be a case of alleged kidnapping.

Therefore, viewers seemed to link the journalist’s abrupt mid-air disappearance to her mother’s case. But it was allegedly not the reason. “There are strict protocols if anything breaks in her mother’s case while Savannah is live on-air. Apparently this wasn’t that — which honestly makes the whole thing feel even stranger,” one insider claimed.

Meanwhile, Guthrie returned to the NBC morning show last month after a two-month hiatus. She had taken a break from work since her mom went missing on February 1.
