Donald Trump expressed his continued interest in fulfilling his pledge to inspect Fort Knox. He claimed that he still wants to go through the tough doors and check whether the gold still exists. The desire to inspect the gold emerged in February 2025, after his presidential inauguration, when he called for a presidential audit after alleging that they had found billions of dollars of fraud.
Donald Trump wants to personally check Fort Knox
During a recent interview with journalist Sharyl Attkisson, the US president was asked if he still desires to visit Fort Knox to inspect the gold. Replying that he still does, he added, “Well, we wanted to go and knock on their door — Fort Knox, very thick door — and to see whether or not we have any gold in there.”
While he praised the question, he also wondered if there was any gold left in Fort Knox. “It’s a very interesting question. We played with that. I wondered if they left the gold in Fort Knox because they steal a lot,” he added, though who exactly he was referring to was not clarified. He doubled down on his stance that he will visit it someday to be sure whether the gold still exists or has been stolen (via The Independent).
Back in February 2025, Trump expressed his interest in going to Kentucky to check for gold reserves following a push from tech billionaire Elon Musk, who was involved in the Department of Government Efficiency. He was asked to do a proper check on the facility to see if the reported gold is in place.
He said, “We’re getting a little bit shaky. We’re getting the yips on this stuff. Like, I want to find out. So we’re going to open up the doors. I’m going to see if we have gold there. We want to find out, did anybody steal the gold in Fort Knox?”
Further, the 79-year-old reiterated that he wants to check whether the 400 tons of gold are still there, adding that he does not want to open the cupboard and find it empty.
