Donald Trump Has Unexpected Reaction to Iran’s Response to US Proposal

Donald Trump reacted sharply after Iran delivered its latest response to a major US proposal tied to the ongoing conflict. The president’s comments added fresh tension to already fragile negotiations as officials on multiple sides continued weighing their next moves.

Donald Trump calls Iran’s response to US proposal ‘unacceptable’

According to the BBC, President Donald Trump called Iran’s response to a United States proposal “totally unacceptable.” Iran sent its proposal through Pakistan, which acted as a mediator during ongoing negotiations. Tehran demanded an immediate end to fighting, guarantees against further attacks, and a halt to the US naval blockade. Trump wrote on Truth Social, “I have just read the response from Iran’s so-called ‘Representatives.’ I don’t like it – TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.”

A ceasefire between Iran, Israel, and the United States has largely held since last month, despite occasional exchanges of fire. Trump previously said the conflict would be “over quickly,” while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu demanded the dismantling of Iran’s enrichment facilities. Netanyahu told CBS, “There’s still enrichment sites that have to be dismantled.” Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated, “We will never bow our heads before the enemy.”

Axios reported that the US memorandum contained 14 points, including suspending Iranian nuclear enrichment and lifting sanctions. The proposal also included restoring free transit through the Strait of Hormuz after a final agreement. Iran has continued restricting passage through the strait, causing higher global oil prices. Military spokesman Mohammad Akraminia warned ships against ignoring Tehran’s instructions and threatened “severe consequences.”

The Strait of Hormuz remains critical because around one-fifth of global oil and gas supplies normally pass through it. Iran has attacked or threatened vessels crossing the waterway since the conflict began on 28 February. The United States maintains military bases across the Gulf, including in Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. Britain announced plans to send a warship to the region for a proposed international shipping security mission.

Iran warned France and Britain of a “decisive and immediate response” to any deployments in the strait. Kuwait and the UAE also reported intercepting drones originating from Iran. Defense ministers from more than 40 nations will meet to discuss UK-led plans protecting shipping routes after hostilities end.
