Samsung Faces $15M Lawsuit From Dua Lipa Over Image Use — Report

The intersection of celebrity, branding, and consumer tech is back in the spotlight. A legal dispute is reportedly brewing between one of music’s biggest global stars and one of the world’s most recognizable electronics brands. Emerging reports indicate that Samsung faces a $15 million lawsuit from Dua Lipa over the use of her image on TV boxes.

Dua Lipa reportedly files $15 million lawsuit against Samsung

Dua Lipa is reportedly suing Samsung for $15 million, alleging unlicensed use of her image.

According to a legal complaint submitted on Friday to a US district court in California, Samsung allegedly featured an image of the pop sensation on TV screens shown on its cardboard packaging. Samsung used the boxes for “a significant portion” of the TVs it sold in the US last year.

When the “Houdini” hitmaker found out about the image in June 2025, she says she immediately told Samsung to stop. She alleges that the company was “dismissive and callous” and “repeatedly refused” her demands.

According to the lawsuit, Samsung used Dua Lipa’s face prominently in a mass marketing campaign for a consumer product without her knowledge, payment, or approval. The suit emphasizes she had no control or input in the decision, and that she neither allowed the use nor would have agreed to it.

The lawsuit asserts that Lipa holds the copyright to the photograph. Lipa’s claims include copyright infringement and a violation of California’s right of publicity law. At the federal level, she is pursuing a Lanham Act violation and several trademark claims.

The lawsuit alleges Samsung profited financially by implying that the 30-year-old had endorsed its products. It notes that Lipa is “highly selective” about endorsements. She has existing brand partnerships with companies including Apple, Porsche, Versace, Bulgari, and Nespresso. It further argues that Samsung’s actions undercut her brand-building efforts and deprived her of control over her assets.

Hence, Dua Lipa is seeking a permanent injunction against Samsung. In addition to seeking at least $15 million in actual damages, she is pursuing punitive damages and legal fees.
