Sydney Sweeney Faces Backlash for Euphoria OnlyFans’ Arc

The string of criticism surrounding Sydney Sweeney’s character, Cassie Howard, in Euphoria Season 3 continues. This time, additional OnlyFans scenes have crossed boundaries for many viewers. Earlier, Cassie opted for dog and baby-in-diaper roleplay content to earn money through the platform, which sparked massive backlash online. Now, even OF creators are coming forward to criticize Euphoria Season 3 for portraying their profession in a way that they claim is far from reality.

Sydney Sweeney’s recent OnlyFans arc in Euphoria draws backlash

Sydney Sweeney’s Cassie’s OnlyFans arc continues to receive massive backlash as more explicit scenes make their way into the latest episode. In it, Maddie aids Cassie in creating adult content and growing her subscriber count. While some scenes were relatively light-hearted, like sending sexy voice messages, others went far beyond what many viewers considered acceptable. For instance, Cassie masturbated on camera in one scene, and in another, she went topless. She made exotic content to earn good money and help Nate pay off his debts.

OnlyFans content creators, however, are voicing their opinions on Euphoria’s portrayal of their profession and calling it not quite right. For instance, Sydney Leathers called the arc “ridiculous and cartoonish,” revealing that most explicit scenes that are showcased on the show are not even allowed on the platform in reality, as they have strict rules.

Moreover, Maitland Ward also slammed the show for making a joke out of their profession and interpreting the field wrongly. “And there’s always this untrue stigma that somehow sex work is synonymous with sex trafficking and abuse. And they just said, let’s make a joke of it. That is so funny. I’m not laughing,” she explained.

Despite the massive backlash, Sam Levinson attempted to explain the intention behind Cassie’s storyline. He revealed that it was meant to highlight just how disconnected Cassie is from reality. He said to The Hollywood Reporter, “[Cassie] has got her dog house and her little dog ears and the nose, and that has its own humor. But what makes the scene is the fact that her housekeeper is the one filming it. What we wanted to always find is the other layer of absurdity that we’re able to tie into it so that we’re not too inside of her fantasy or illusion. The gag is to jump out, to break the wall.”
