Donald Trump’s ‘Golden Dome’ Plan to Cost $1.2 Trillion — Report

Donald Trump’s Golden Dome missile defense project is reportedly estimated to cost over a trillion dollars, as per a recent analysis by the CBO. The original cost estimation of the proposed program given last year was $175 billion.

Donald Trump’s proposed ‘golden dome’ reportedly to cost a hefty amount

According to a recent analysis by the Congressional Budget Office, Donald Trump’s proposed “Golden Dome for America” missile defense project is expected to cost approximately $1.2 trillion over the course of 20 years.

The analysis of the CBO report, which was published on Tuesday, is said to reflect “one illustrative approach rather than an estimate of a specific Administration proposal.” Trump signed an executive order in the first week of his second term, directing the Secretary of Defense to submit the Golden Dome plan.

The proposed program aims to build a multi-layer missile defense for the country that can detect and destroy missiles before they are even fired. At the time, the president expected the plan to be “fully operational” before the end of his term in January 2029.

“Over the past 40 years, rather than lessening, the threat from next-generation strategic weapons has become more intense and complex with the development by peer and near-peer adversaries of next-generation delivery systems,” Trump stated in the executive order.

According to the CBO report, the lack of “details about what and how many systems will be deployed” from the Defense Department has made it “impossible to estimate the long term cost” of the Golden Dome system.

In March, General Michael Guetlein, the Pentagon official who is overseeing the project, said that the Golden Dome plan is estimated to cost $185 billion over a decade for what he described as “objective architecture” of the program.

Speaking at McAleese and Associates’ annual conference, Guetlein further stated, “There has been numerous cost estimates out there in excess of a trillion dollars. I would say the difference between what they are estimating and what we are building is they’re not estimating what I’m building” (via National Defense Magazine).
