Jake Hall, a 35-year-old British reality star, was in massive debt prior to his May 6 death. He fell through a glass door, which shattered, causing his death.
A model and businessman as well as a TV personality, Jake was best known as a cast member on the ITV reality series The Only Way Is Essex. He appeared on the show between 2015 and 2016.
The TOWIE star had debts of nearly £1.5 million
According to the Daily Mail, Jake’s financial struggles occurred following the collapse of his fashion company, where he was sole director. The business, Prevu London Limited, was about £1.49million in debt and liquidated last year, according to Companies House.
In addition to owing hundreds of thousands of pounds in debts, the company reportedly owed £181,581 to HMRC. Prevu London also owed £1.1million to an Essex-based property business for a loan.
Jake’s close friend noted he “wanted to live like Cristiano Ronaldo but had the budget of a Towie star,” The Sun reported. “There was a point when Jake was on the show when he had the world at his feet. He suddenly had loads of money and his business went well but that had not been the case more recently. He would put up a big front but the money wasn’t there anymore.”
On Tuesday, May 5, Jake arrived in Santa Margalida and was believed to have gone out in Palma. He returned with two young men and three young women, who he partied with until 7:15 a.m.
Neighbor Rafael heard a loud crash, then hurried over to the villa, according to The Sun. He saw Jake collapsed on the floor with severe head injuries and deep cuts from shards of glass lodged in his neck and chest.
“I found a boy on the floor, I checked his vital signs and he wasn’t breathing,” Rafael recalled. “There was glass around his neck and arms and a lot of blood on the floor.”
About 15 minutes later, emergency services – including Guardia Civil – arrived but life saving measures were unsuccessful. The death was deemed accidental by police. An autopsy will determine if drugs or alcohol played a role in Jake’s death.
Jake leaves behind his daughter River, born in November 2017, and her mother, Missé Beqiri.
