White House will host prayer festival to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary
The White House has announced the “Rededicate 250: A National Jubilee of Prayer, Praise & Thanksgiving” event. It is a day-long prayer festival that will take place on the National Mall on Sunday, May 17. It is a part of the government’s larger Freedom 250 anniversary plan.
According to the event’s official website, the festival is a “historic gathering to give thanks for God’s providence, reflect on our nation’s story, and rededicate America as One Nation under God.” It invites all Americans to “join with neighbors and friends from every state in the Union in giving thanks. Plus “to praise to God for 250 years of His Providence for the United States, in praying that God Bless and Protect America for the next 250 years.” Not just that, but to also solemnly rededicating our country as One Nation under God.”
The description further states, “In speech, song, and storytelling, we will bear witness to the extraordinary story of how God has powerfully and wondrously shaped the United States of America—remembering the people, sacrifices, and defining moments in which God has powerfully manifested Himself in our history.” The website says, “This is more than an event — it is a once in a lifetime national moment.”
The website also confirms that several members of the Trump administration will be in attendance and give speeches. They include Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. Others include the Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, and Senator Tim Scott, among many others.
The event will feature evangelical Protestant leaders such as Franklin Graham. He has sparked controversy in the past for his anti-gay and anti-Muslim remarks. Also in attendance will be the chancellor of Liberty University, Jonathan Falwell. Plus, White House’s senior faith advisor, Pastor Paula White, is expected.
