Trump Mobile’s gold-plated smartphone will finally begin shipping after months of production delays. The long-awaited launch has drawn renewed attention as questions continue surrounding the phone’s manufacturing and preorder changes.
Donald Trump’s gold phone will start shipping soon
According to CNN, Trump Mobile announced that the Trump Mobile T1 phone will start shipping this week. The company accepted $100 deposits nearly a year ago. Earlier website terms described delivery as “conditional” and said availability depended on production decisions.
The $499 Android-powered device keeps its gold appearance and Trump branding. However, the company reduced the screen size and storage capacity from earlier descriptions. Fortune previously reported that preorder language no longer guaranteed production or purchase availability.
Trump Mobile originally planned to release the phone last August. However, the company delayed shipments while completing manufacturing and software requirements. CEO Pat O’Brien said, “The technology business is more difficult than some may realize, as parts must be tested for quality assurances.” He also stated, “With demand being incredibly high, orders are being fulfilled as quickly as possible.” The company posted several Facebook updates after six inactive months. One post stated, “Phones start shipping this week!!!” Trump Mobile also disabled comments on those announcements.
Analyst Max Weinbach said Android device production usually requires about 18 months. He stated, “There tend to be a lot of hoops to jump through to get an Android device on the market.” Trump Mobile initially promoted the phone as “Made in USA.” Later, the company replaced that description with “designed with American values in mind.” Analysts questioned the device’s American origins because its specifications resembled a Chinese-made smartphone. Ryan Reith said terms like “designed” and “built” remain vague during manufacturing discussions.
The Trump Organization created the smartphone through President Donald Trump’s private business holding company. Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. currently manage the organization. Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren said the delay “looks like another Trump scam.” Trump Mobile also offers a $47.45 monthly voice and data plan. The price references.
