Donald Trump just sent Iran a warning during his China trip. The U.S. president made fresh remarks during a major overseas visit that could signal growing tensions and possible diplomatic pressure behind closed doors.
Donald Trump drops Iran comment amid China trip
According to Reuters, U.S. President Donald Trump said he would not remain patient with Iran during his China trip. Trump told Fox News’ “Hannity” program, “I am not going to be much more patient.” Moreover, he urged Tehran to “make a deal” with Washington regarding its nuclear program and regional tensions.
Trump also questioned efforts to retrieve Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile. He said, “I don’t think it’s necessary except from a public relations standpoint.” Furthermore, Trump added, “I just feel better if I got it, actually.” He stated the issue involved public perception more than security concerns.
The United States insists Iran should move its highly enriched uranium abroad and end domestic enrichment activities. Meanwhile, Iran denies seeking nuclear weapons and says peaceful nuclear development remains its legal right. Tehran cites its membership in the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty to justify uranium enrichment for civilian purposes.
Iranian parliamentary spokesman Ebrahim Rezaei said Iran could enrich uranium to 90% purity if attacked again. Weapons-grade uranium generally requires enrichment levels near that threshold. However, Iran maintains its nuclear program serves peaceful objectives rather than military ambitions.
The ceasefire between the United States and Iran has lasted more than five weeks but remains unstable. Neither government appears close to reaching a broader agreement to end the conflict. Additionally, the war has faced opposition within the United States as tensions continue across the region.
The United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran on February 28. Iran responded with strikes targeting Israel and Gulf states hosting American military bases. U.S.-Israel strikes on Iran and Israeli attacks in Lebanon have killed thousands and displaced millions.
