Donald Trump has shared new pictures of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in a Saturday Truth Social post, providing an update on its ongoing renovation plans. The president gave a “sample test” of the pool on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., stating that the project will be completed by July 4.
“Sample test of the Reflecting Pool with the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument in the background — at each end of the Pool — which is, by the way, the World’s longest,” Trump wrote. “Looking really good! Should be completed before the Fourth of July, our target date,” he continued.
The POTUS further shared, “Have substantially upgraded construction materials, including surface qualities, sandblasting granite, and exterior stone and walkways.” He added, “I’ve made this a much larger job than originally contemplated for purposes of Beauty, and a much longer life. Also, went to a higher quality sealer with more reflectivity. Check it out before the Opening — It’s a very exciting project!”
Trump had ordered a “American flag blue” paint job on the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, after previously stating on Truth Social that the landmark is “filthy, dirty and it leaked like a sieve for many years.”
The new update comes shortly after the nonprofit, The Cultural Landscape Foundation (TCLF), filed a lawsuit against the Department of the Interior and the National Park Service for altering the pool’s color without following “Congressional mandatory procedures.”
Referring also to the controversial White House ballroom project, TCLF’s complaint alleged, “This latest desecration of the reflecting pool is part of a pattern — epitomized most notably by the rush to destroy the East Wing of the White [House] — in which this Administration willfully disregards legal limits established by Congress.”
