Javier Bardem Slams ‘Big Balls Man’ Donald Trump’s Masculinity

Having earned a reputation for boldly speaking his mind, Javier Bardem recently opened up about the adverse effects of toxic masculinity on society, calling out world leaders like Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in the process. Subtly alluding to the Iran war, the Academy Award winner claimed that such politicians’ “big balls man” ideology has resulted in the demise of thousands of citizens, before explaining how his upcoming movie tackles the issue.

Javier Bardem slams Donald Trump’s masculinity and toxic behaviour

During his recent appearance at the Cannes Film Festival for the promotion of his next feature, The Beloved, Javier Bardem detailed the wider impact of toxic masculinity on common people.

He started by stating, “I’m 57 years old, coming from a very machista country called Spain, where there is an average of two women killed monthly by their ex-husbands or ex-boyfriends, which is horrible. Just that amount of women being murdered, it’s unbelievable. And we kind of normalized it. It’s like, ‘Well, yeah, it’s horrible.’ I mean, are we fucking nuts? We are killing women because some men think they own them, they possess them.”

Bardem then shifted focus to world leaders, including Trump, highlighting their contribution to the discourse around masculinity. “And that problem also goes to Mr. Trump and Mr. Putin and Mr. Netanyahu, the big balls man saying, ‘My big, my c*** is bigger than yours, and I’m gonna bomb the s*** out of you.’ It’s a f****** male toxic behavior that is creating thousands of dead people, so yeah, we have to talk about it,” the actor told Deadline.

Bardem concluded his account on the topic by adding that viewers won’t see similar themes in The Beloved. “I think we are talking about it…We are more aware of it, thankfully, because maybe 20 years ago [this] was something that nobody will pay attention as a problem, and, and I think this movie speaks about that…in this movie there are three people that say ‘No’ to Esteban: three women,” he remarked.

Led by Bardem and helmed by Rodrigo Sorogoyen, The Beloved premiered at Cannes on May 16 and will have its Spanish theatrical release on August 26.
