A new documentary claims that Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, once offered help to Meghan Markle, only for Markle to allegedly turn it down. The Channel 5 programme, “Royal Peacemaker: Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh,” charts Sophie’s journey from newcomer to one of the British monarchy’s most recognizable figures. It claims that while Sophie became a trusted guide for Kate Middleton, Markle did not accept the Duchess of Edinburgh’s help.
Meghan Markle reportedly refused any help from Duchess Sophie, claims report
The Mirror has reported that royal experts described the Duchess of Edinburgh as a woman who made it her mission to help younger women marrying into the Royal Family. Royal commentator Emily Andrews claimed that Sophie approached both Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, saying, “When she saw younger members marrying into the Royal Family, like Catherine Middleton and Meghan Markle, she was very happy to offer to be a mentor of sorts.” Andrews added, “Sophie had seen it all. She’s been there and done that.”
With Middleton, the bond allegedly took root quickly, with royal correspondent Victoria Murphy calling Sophie “a natural mentor for Kate in many ways” and pointing to small but telling gestures.
However, the documentary suggests the story was different with Markle. Andrews claims that Sophie made the same approach, meeting the Duchess of Sussex and allegedly telling her, “Anything I can do, anything I can help with, let me know.” However, Markle allegedly never invited her to Frogmore Cottage.
Notably, the late Queen Elizabeth also allegedly had enormous trust in her daughter-in-law, with Ailsa Anderson, former press secretary for the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, describing that bond by saying, “I think the late Queen saw Sophie as a safe pair of hands, as she could always be relied on.” Anderson added, “Sophie was a true confidant for the Queen, which is quite rare in the royal world.”
