Though she’s not even thirty years old, DJ Maddi Reese is starting to worry about having children.
Last week in Southern Hospitality Season 4 Episode 11, Maddi opened up about wanting to be a mom someday. But because she has Celiac Disease and a family history of infertility, Maddi was considering freezing her eggs.
Southern Hospitality’s Maddi Reese broke down over the procedure
In an exclusive Decider clip from tonight’s show, Maddi breaks down over the mounting pressure about the future.
“I just had a conversation with my mom,” she tearfully explains to her boyfriend Joe Bradley. “I feel like my mom will put this pressure on me … That I need to figure everything out and go freeze my eggs … I feel like I’m just a kid, Joe. Why do I have to figure out the marriage, the kids, all in this one summer?”
“My mom is like, ‘Knowledge is power,’” she continues. “I’m like, ‘No the fuck it’s not!’ That’s a curse. Half of the smartest people in the world — even in Fantastic Four, Dr. Reed is like, ‘This is a curse.’”
But in her production confessional, Maddi learns that it’s not just possible to freeze eggs, but an embryo can be frozen.
“You can freeze an embryo? People do that? Woah,” she tells producers in amazement. “So it’s like the movies, where there’s just a baby floating in a scientific liquid?”
After learning that an embryo is simply a fertilized egg, Maddi slows her roll. “What if Joe and I don’t get married or work out?” she wonders. “Then I’m wasting my eggs on some other guy’s sperm.”
As for her boyfriend, Joe isn’t crazy about the idea of freezing an embryo. “There’s been food that I’ve frozen, and … it expired in the freezer,” he says. “I don’t know how this works.”
The clip ends with Reese repeating the words of Dr. Reed, “My brain is a curse.”
Southern Hospitality airs Wednesdays at 9/8c on Bravo. It streams on Peacock the next day.
