Three years after Donald Trump was found liable for sexual abuse and defamation against E. Jean Carroll, he’s reopening the case. Earlier this week, Trump ordered an investigation into the matter.
The ladies of The View found this decision to be “absolutely wild.”
“Given all the problems we’re dealing with right now, and the fact that two juries found him guilty, why is the administration spending time trying to re-litigate this case that was already decided by two juries? What the hell?!” moderator Whoopi Goldberg asked her co-hosts.

After Whoopi opened the conversation, Meghan McCain’s replacement, Alyssa Farah Griffin, agreed that Trump’s reopening the case was “just absolutely wild.”
“Find me the sole voter who went out and voted in November because they wanted to see the Department of Justice, at taxpayer expense, investigate an 82-year-old woman,” she responded. “Like, it makes no sense.”
The pair also agreed that the timing of the investigation is odd, considering the state of the U.S. economy. At the moment, American citizens are struggling with the cost of filling their gas tanks, as well as their bellies.
But Alyssa also saw the move as what Trump likes to do best: it’s a distraction. “From a PR standpoint, no one was talking about this,” she observed. “Literally no one has uttered the words ‘E. Jean Carroll’ in months, if not years.”
Though Joy Behar suggested that the investigation is Trump’s “weapons of mass destruction,” Alyssa believed it’s the opposite.
“I think he just wants his vengeance,” she continued. “But he’s putting something that’s horrible for him back in the headlines. It’s like when he brings up January 6, I’m like, ‘I wouldn’t remind folks about that.’ Like, what are you doing?”
The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
