Television host and comedian Jimmy Kimmel got emotional while honoring his friend and MAGA ally Adam Carolla at the Walk of Fame ceremony. Their friendship spans nearly 30 years, starting with The Man Show on Comedy Central.
Jimmy Kimmel gets emotional while speaking about MAGA-supporting friend Adam Carolla
Jimmy Kimmel grew visibly emotional as he spoke about his longtime friend Adam Carolla, a vocal supporter of MAGA, reflecting on decades of loyalty that have transcended political divides. The late-night host gave a heartfelt speech celebrating his friend as he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
“Adam and I, as you probably know, don’t agree much when it comes to politics,” Kimmel said. “But I love him dearly. I’ve never worked with anyone funnier,” he continued, fighting back tears. “I am proud of him. I am.”
The moment comes after Adam Carolla defended Jimmy Kimmel. Carolla spoke up when Melania Trump urged ABC to fire the host for his “expectant widow” joke about her, made just days before the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. “That’s a pretty typical roast joke,” Carolla noted on his podcast, The Adam Carolla Show, last month.
“It is also a trope—any younger, beautiful woman who’s married to an older guy, especially if the guy’s rumored to be sort of douchey, you would make that joke at any roast,” he contented, adding that the joke wasn’t disrespectful unless Kimmel could see the future. “When you make a joke, and then nothing happens—like there was no shooting. No one made a thing about it before the shooting.”
Back in 2012, Carolla told The Hollywood Reporter that he left the Democratic Party for the Republicans because he was “tired of the whining and the name-calling.”
In January, Adam Carolla discussed his friendship with Jimmy Kimmel on the Will Cain Country podcast. He said, “Jimmy knows who I am on a very deep and intimate level.” Carolla added that people don’t cut off good friends over political disagreement.
