Vasana Montgomery is owning up to her action. The 25-year-old was one of the 12 people originally cast for Season 8 of Love Island USA. She was removed from the show after videos of her surfaced from years ago uttering a racial slur. She issued a statement about her removal, apologizing to fans and the show.
One of the videos, which the casting team and production weren’t aware of before, showed her saying the racial slur while singing along to a song. The first episode of the new season came out on Tuesday.

Vasana is learning a hard lesson following her controversial remarks. On Wednesday, she addressed the backlash in her Instagram story. She says those videos were from her teenage years. “There is no excuse for it, and I am deeply sorry,” she stated. Vasana also expressed embarrassment about her actions.
While she regrets her actions greatly, she added that she had grown a lot since those two infamous videos. She says that she has “taken the time to listen, learn and better understand the impact that language can have.” In another video, Vasana is heard yelling out the n-word to her friend, who is playing an arcade game.
Production decided to remove her from the show as a result. The announcement came the day before the premiere of the Season 8 episode. In addition to her growth, though, Vasana acknowledges that she cannot take back her actions as she might wish to. According to some production sources, the clips that appeared were private videos that weren’t accessible to them during the show’s vetting process.
This season’s cast has drawn plenty of backlash. Among them is Mackenzie Annis and Kenzie, who some believe is a Donald Trump supporter. That speculation followed the surfacing of photos of her with others who appeared to be Make America Great Again (MAGA) supporters. Her father, Tim, denied that notion that she supported the President.
