Meghan Markle‘s aide is defending her decision to post about her kids on social media. The Duchess of Sussex shared glimpses of her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, on Instagram. These posts came before her speech on the harmful effects of social media on kids in Switzerland. Subsequently, netizens started criticizing the royal for her hypocritical actions. Thus, Markle’s spokesperson has now stepped up in defence.
Meghan Markle’s rep defends the duchess’ decision to share photos of her kids on social media
Meghan Markle’s rep spoke up against the backlash towards the Duchess for posting about her kids on social media. “There is a distinction between sharing moments from her life and exposing her children to public scrutiny,” the spokesperson told Newsweek. Further, the aide stated that the “Suits” alum “is demonstrating the very principle she advocates for” by concealing her children’s faces.
Markle believes in “giving children privacy, agency, and protection in an increasingly digital world.” The rep further explained, “Far from being contradictory, by concealing their faces she is actually reflecting the message she delivered in Geneva.” The message is that “parents can choose to share family experiences while still taking deliberate steps to protect identities, privacy, and digital footprint.”
In the previous month, Royal expert Tom Sykes, who was present at The Lost Screen Memorial, criticized Markle for her hypocrisy. He wrote to The Royalist, “The Duchess flew to Geneva to highlight ‘“’preventable harms’”’ to children online. Hours earlier, she posted her four-year-old daughter on Instagram surrounded by a fortune in designer clothes.”
The expert also stated, “Yes, a woman who is about to stand alongside the world’s most senior public health official and talk about the measurable and preventable harms of exposing children to social media has just — voluntarily, for no apparent reason other than self-promotion — exposed her own child to social media.”
