Bryce Mitchell accused the White House UFC of “desecrating” the government’s role and said he does not support it being held at the White House. The 31-year-old fighter said the government should stay out of sporting events, warning that the planned UFC event on June 14, coinciding with Donald Trump’s birthday, could fuel corruption.
Controversial UFC fighter Bryce Mitchell says the government is corrupt enough without involving sports
During a press conference on June 3, the UFC fighter Mitchell, who is not scheduled to fight that night, expressed happiness for those who are. He said, “For the UFC, I think it’s great. It’s beyond great. It’s literally the perfect scenario.”
However, he showed concerns, saying, “I am an Economics major. I love studying politics. On the political side of things, not the UFC’s business, i.e. of course, they’re gonna say yes to it. But what I think personally is that our government is desecrating its role in society by entertaining sports. Our government is to protect and serve the people, and really should be as minimal as possible.”
Mitchell, who is ranked 16th in the featherweight division and competes under the nickname Thug Nasty, further stated, “When you’re doing all of this stuff, hosting sporting events, it’s really outside of what the goal of the government was intended to be, because our tax dollars and resources are funding this operation,” adding, “We already have a corrupted government. And so that’s my thoughts on it that the government is supposed to protect us, not entertain us.”
This isn’t the first time Mitchell has criticized Donald Trump. In April, he took it to Instagram, stating, “I do think the UFC is the best sport in the world. However, this White House card, I do think, is an egregious use of political favor to make people worship Donald Trump. They are trying to make the most popular sport and make it conducive to Trump’s campaign while he destroys this nation.” He then questioned, “How much clearer does it get? This guy is trying to take over the world.” In the caption, he added, “I also think Trump is an antichrist of Revelation.”
