Donald Trump Gives Major Update on Iran Peace Deal Negotiation

President Donald Trump gave a much-anticipated update on the Iran war-peace deal. His remarks follow months of military escalation, a short-lived ceasefire, and failed talks in Pakistan earlier this year. Read on to find out what the president said about the negotiations on Truth Social.

In a telephone interview with ABC News on Monday, Donald Trump confirmed that diplomatic channels for the Iran peace deal remain open and insisted a resolution is close. “We’re trying to finish it up,” he said. Dismissing suggestions that the process is complex, Trump stated, “It’s actually pretty simple. It’s the one with the power wins. We have all the power.”

This Iran war update comes as his ally, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, recently attacked Lebanon. The president also revealed he faces domestic pressure to abandon negotiations. Some of his “best friends,” he said, are urging him to restart bombing campaigns immediately. His response was, “They don’t understand.” A return to full-scale military action, Trump warned, would bring severe economic consequences, including the prolonged closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital artery for global oil shipments.

On February 28, Trump announced what he termed “major combat operations” against Iran, with joint U.S.-Israeli strikes hitting military installations, government buildings, and critical infrastructure. A two-week ceasefire followed. But when representatives from Washington and Tehran met in Pakistan in April, those initial discussions failed to produce a peace agreement.

Rather than resume hostilities, Trump extended the ceasefire on an open-ended basis while keeping a U.S. naval blockade firmly in place. He has made clear the economic pressure will not ease until talks conclude “one way or the other.”

Now, on Truth Social, Trump struck a cautious tone. He wrote that progress toward a peace deal with Iran is proceeding “subject to ignorance or stupidity getting in its way.” Asked to elaborate, he warned that miscalculation could trigger a devastating conflict. “If people are stupid, we’ll end up in something where we have to wipe out an entire infrastructure of a nation. I don’t think that’s a good thing, because somebody’s going to have to rebuild it.”
