Vance Calls Spencer Pratt’s Mayoral Loss ‘Pretty Shady’ Amid Donald Trump’s ‘Rigged’ Claims

US Administration’s Vice President J.D. Vance weighed in on Spencer Pratt’s defeat in the Los Angeles mayoral race, where progressive Councilwoman Nithya Raman outdid him.

Vance says that Pratt’s defeat is “shady,” as it seems a conspiracy is in place to filter out Republicans. The race is now “Democrat vs Democrats,” which is highly unlikely under normal circumstances.

J.D. Vance fuels speculation of a rigged mayoral race because Spencer Pratt lost

The Hills reality television star Spencer Pratt ran as a Republican in the non-partisan Los Angeles mayoral primary held on June 2, 2026. While Pratt initially held second place in early returns, late-counted mail-in ballots caused progressive city council member Nithya Raman to surge past him by June 8, locking him out of the November runoff against incumbent Karen Bass.

The 41-year-old Vice President explained his views, saying, “Fundamentally, the problem here with this whole thing is how is it that you had, you know, [Los Angeles Mayor] Karen Bass was in first place, Spencer Pratt was in second place, and then this other woman was in third place. You would expect these mail-in ballots to kind of meet that same basic pattern.”

Vance also substantiated his claims, saying that it is a surprise that the city is still receiving votes. He seemingly suspects some foul play since the Republican candidate has been kicked out, and the race is now between Democrats only.

President Donald Trump had also expressed his disbelief about Pratt’s defeat, saying it was “not possible” and claiming that it was rigged.

Pratt’s unexpected rise is tied to the January 2025 Palisades fire, in which he lost his home. He built his platform around aggressive critiques of Mayor Bass’s homelessness initiatives, advocating for mandatory medical treatment over shelter expansion.
