Tiffany Haddish’s DUI Case Gets Major Update After Latest Legal Development

Actress and comedian Tiffany Haddish is asking a Georgia judge to dismiss her 2022 DUI case. However, according to new court documents obtained by TMZ, the State of Georgia is asking a judge to deny the 46-year-old Emmy and Grammy award-winning actress’ motion to terminate the case.

Tiffany Haddish faces another development in her DUI matter after career claim

According to FOX 7 Austin, Haddish, who is best known for her role in Girls Trip, was arrested on January 14, 2022, after Peachtree City police received a report of a driver asleep behind the wheel on a highway. Officers located a vehicle matching the description, pulled her over, and took her into custody.

The case has now been pending for more than 50 months, with her attorneys arguing that the delay is “presumptively prejudicial” under Georgia law. As per TMZ, Haddish asked the court last month to dismiss the case, arguing that the prolonged delay had affected both her personal and professional life.

However, prosecutors admit the delay of more than four years will hurt their case, but stated it was unintentional and shouldn’t carry much weight. They also argue that while Haddish stated she was ready for trial, she never officially requested an immediate trial, which they say is a key distinction under Georgia law.

Prosecutors stated she has not provided any evidence that the pending charges cost her work as an entertainer and restricted her international travel.

This isn’t Haddish’s only incident linked to DUI allegations. She was also arrested in 2023 in Beverly Hills for blocking lanes, reports ABC News. Officers reportedly found her asleep behind the wheel. According to RollingStone, she was charged with one count of misdemeanor driving under the influence and one count of misdemeanor driving with a blood alcohol level of at least 0.08 percent. However, the case was settled in early 2024, and Haddish received one year of probation.
